Greater Phoenix was recently ranked “2nd Hottest City” in the January 2003 issue of Expansion Management magazine. Arizona’s
pro-business attitude attracted over 40 companies in 2003 to expand or relocate in the Greater Phoenix area. In addition, an increasing
number of companies are relocating their corporate or regional headquarters to Greater Phoenix to join companies such as Allied
Waste, Motorola, Avnet, and Phelps Dodge. Trends such as these are expected to continue as the Greater Phoenix labor force
continues to grow at twice the national rate, enabling employers to find talented workers.
Greater Phoenix has long been described as one of the best places to live. The area offers a lower cost of living than other
metro areas of its size, along with high quality secondary education and a warm, moderate climate that continues to attract over
80,000 new residents a year. Greater Phoenix also offers residents a wide variety of recreational and cultural activities. The area
is home to seven professional sports teams and is host to annual events such as the NASCAR Winston Cup Phoenix 500, the PGA
Phoenix Open, and the NCAA Fiesta Bowl. Quality of life remains an important consideration in site selection, as business
leaders consider if they can attract employees to the area. The extraordinary quality of life offered in Greater Phoenix has

Respectable Hiring Patterns Forecast for Greater Phoenix
PHOENIX (March 16th, 2004) – According to the latest Employment Outlook Survey by Manpower, Inc., 28 percent of Greater Phoenix employers are planning to expand their workforce in the first quarter of 2004. This is the same as the 28 percent average for employers in the United States as a whole. In Greater Phoenix, new job openings are expected in in Construction, Durable Goods Manufacturing, Wholesale/Retail Trade, Finance/Insurance/Real Estate and Public Administration. Non-Durable Goods Manufacturing, Transportation/Public Utilities and Education are remaining the same.

During the period from April to June, 28 percent of the companies interviewed plan to hire more employees, while 7 percent intend to reduce their workforce, Another 65 percent expect to maintain their current staff levels.
